It's one of the questions we hear most. Wool has a reputation for being itchy and irritating. But there's a big difference between the wool in a jumper and the natural wool used as the filling inside a play mat.
In our play mat, the wool never touches the skin
At Maison Theo the natural wool sits inside, as padding. Your baby only ever touches the cotton outside, which is soft and breathable.
Can wool cause allergies in babies?
A true wool allergy is uncommon. What's often mistaken for one is the itch of coarse fibres on sensitive skin – and that doesn't happen when the wool isn't in direct contact with the skin. If your baby has very sensitive skin or a diagnosed allergy, always check with your paediatrician.
Why we use natural wool
- It helps regulate temperature: it insulates from a cold floor in winter and stays comfortable in summer.
- It cushions without flattening – ideal for tummy time and crawling.
- It's a natural fibre, with no polyester or foam.
- It naturally resists dust mites and is flame-resistant.
